Narendranath, known by his mystic name “Swami Vivekananda” was born on 12th January, 1863 at Belur district in present day West Bengal. He was a major force in the revival of Hinduism in India and contributed to the concept of Hindu Nationalism in Colonial India.
Swami Vivekananda completed his primary education at Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s Metropolitan Institution and graduated from General Assembly’s Institution, Kolkata.
“The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him -that moment I am free from bondage, everything that bind vanishes and I am free”. Swamiji was clear cut in his spiritual and Nationalistic views . He mentioned in his speeches, the essence of Indian education system consider human beings as a single creature on earth among the millions of such living beings. The capability of human beings to think, reproduce the results as they want with the help of scientific and spiritual explore made them superior to the fellow creatures in terms of intelligence but the inappropriate usage of the same made us insensitive to the nature. Nature provided us with everything that we have and she is our Mother, what will the future of humanity if we become insensitive to our Mother.
Swamiji correlated the freedom struggle by Indians to the spiritual revival of Hindus. Hindus who lost their spiritual legacy, provided through the ages from their forefathers made Indians to go for slavery of about 800 years -initially it was Sultans from Persia, then Mughals and finally the Europeans. Swamiji realized that Hindus have to fight against the spiritual evils within themselves to pave way to the supreme freedom for our Nation. Hindus have received their culture through revelation, the Vedas. Vedas are devoid of the beginning and the end and not just like other proclaimed religious books as present world realizes the difference between the Indian religions and the rest. Vedas are like a library while the universe itself is the syllabus . He eventually told in his most of the speeches that what Indians or Hindus actually needs is the revival of their past through their spiritual legacy.
